WHAT'S ON
Guidelines for new riders
Some very basic guidelines for new riders:
1. The ride is open to anyone who shows up, providing they ride a road bike, (no hybrids or mountain bikes), and they wear a helmet. Lights are also a requirement in the winter months. We also need to restrict the attendance of minors unless their parent or legal guardian accompanies them.
2. Show up on time. The ride departs promptly at 6.30am.
3. Heed the instructions of the ride leaders.
4. Be conscious of the other riders.
5. Stop for red lights and stop signs. Only ride through greens.
6. We strongly recommend clip-less pedals and shoes.
7. Whenever possible, the ride follows the same route every Saturday.
8. All riders are responsible for their own route back into town.
9. Know your ability. If you are capable of riding an average
pace of somewhere around 25km/hr for at least two hours, you should be fine.
10. There are no official rest stops.
11. Make sure your bike is in proper working order and be
prepared!
12. Bathroom breaks are common occurrences in big groups,
even in the middle of a morning ride. They are easy enough for men to accomplish, given a decent stretch of undeveloped road and a few trees, but might be a bit more difficult for women, plan accordingly.
13. Cycling can be dangerous. Ride at your own risk
Saturday Shop Ride
Remember the ritual of Saturday morning cartoons? Well, this is better; it will make you fitter, faster, and much more satisfied. There is nothing like a group ride for testing your strengths, working on your weaknesses, and gaining wisdom from experienced riders. Established rides, such as ours, is all about the camaraderie, the talk between fellow cyclists, the banter at the rest stops, helping new cyclists learn how to ride safely and improve their skill level while having fun.
